Rosalyn Gaines, 88

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rosalyn Gaines passed away July 6. She was the wife of Abner J. Gaines; they were married for 54 years. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, a daughter of the late Reuben and Celia (Israel) Berenson.

Rosalyn graduated from Long Island University and received a master’s degree in Library Science from Columbia University. After moving to Kingston, she was the librarian at Prout Memorial High School for many years.

She had a lifelong interest in travel and social action. She supported many charitable organizations, and in her later years was a dedicated volunteer at South County Hospital.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter Barbara A. Gaines, her husband Richard D. King Jr.; and grandchildren Liliana, Robert and Thomson King, sister-in-law Mollie Bailin, nieces Laura-Beth Sholkoff, Debbie and Dori Bailin, nephew Ari Berenson, and many friends. She was the sister of the late William and Sara Betty Berenson.
