Re: Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door (Nov. 8)

Thanks for your article by Rabbi Rosenberg on Bob Dylan in the Nov. 8 issue.

When I first entered Brown’s Sayles Hall for a freshman convocation in September 1966, the lecture turned out not to be the deadly-dull sermon we youngsters all anticipated, but rather “The Poetry of Bob Dylan,” delivered by Professor George Monterio of the department of comparative literature.

Maybe, I’m sure we all thought to ourselves, this staid Ivy League place won’t be so bad after all! (It wasn’t.) I must confess that that morning was the first time I’d ever heard of Dylan!
