Dean emeritus and founding dean of Brown Medical School, he also writes a weekly column for the Providence Journal; his columns for that daily paper number more than 1,000. He was the editor of Medicine & Health Rhode Island, Rhode Island Medical Society’s journal, from 1990 – 1999.

A research physician for 66 years, Aronson was also the co-founder of Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island.

With Renee Rose Shield, he co-wrote “Aging in Today’s World: Conversations Between an Anthropologist and a Physician,” which was published in 2004; and he is the author of “Perilous Encounters: Commentaries on the evolution, art and science of medicine from ancient to modern times,” a 2009 collection of some of his columns from The Jewish Voice & Herald.  Most recently, he is the co-author, with Dr. Joseph Friedman and Mary Korr, of “Medical Odysseys,” an anthology of essays that was published in 2011.

Educated at the Sorbonne and Brown, Harvard and Yale universities, Fink has been teaching at the Rhode Island School of Design since 1957. He has taught film history, film production, Jewish literature and a recent elective on the role of ornithology in books and films. A columnist for other local papers, he has received several awards for his writing and is the recipient of numerous grants from the Rhode Island Council on the Humanities.

He has developed friendships with such notable Jewish names as Maurice Sendak, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Art Spiegelman and Elie Wiesel, and many Jewish artists, as well.

A native of Chicago, she has been a resident of Cranston for many years. Before retiring in 1985, she worked as a psychiatric social worker at Butler Hospital for 26 years.

She moved to Rhode Island from the Midwest in 1948. She enjoys her husband, grown offspring and grandchildren; reading and playing the piano. She took her first piano lesson when she was 63.

Rabbi Rosenberg retired as spiritual leader of Temple Habonim, a Reform congregation in Barrington, in July 2007, having served the community for 33 years. He has taught courses in Jewish studies at Tufts University and at Connecticut College in New London, Conn.

He has been writing poetry for more than 20 years. Some of his poems and translations of modern Hebrew poetry have appeared in national periodicals. In 2007, he completed a 10-year term as poetry editor of the CCAR Journal of Reform Judaism.

Rabbi Rosenberg has written many book reviews and opinion pieces that have appeared in a variety of national Jewish magazines.  He has written more than 100 monthly columns for the Barrington Times, and his op-ed pieces have appeared in the Providence Journal.

Daniel Stieglitz writes a column (“Jerusalem Journal”) on an occasional basis. A native of Providence, he studied at the Providence Hebrew Day School and Classical High Daniel StieglitzSchool, and, from 1999-2001, he studied at Yeshivat Hamivtar in Efrat. After receiving a degree in English Literature from Yeshiva University in 2004, Daniel went on to serve the university as the assistant director of admissions until he made aliyah in July 2007.

After arriving in Israel, he became the overseas promotions coordinator at Nefesh B’Nefesh until he joined the Israeli Army in May 2008. A combat medic who completed his military service in July 2009, he is pursuing a master’s degree in creative writing at Bar Ilan University. He lives in Jerusalem and is the alumni relations coordinator and fundraising associate at Shapell’s/Darché Noam.

Joshua B. Stein

A professor of history at Roger Williams University since 1969, Stein has published several books, including his latest: “Commentary on the Constitution from Plato to Rousseau” (Lexington Books, 2011). He has also written two books on Claude G. Montefiore, the English Jewish reformer (and student of Solomon Schechter) and one on Josiah C. Wedgwood “Our Great Solicitor” (Susquehanna University Press). Wedgwood, an MP from 1905-1942 when he was elevated to the House of Lords, was a staunch defender of Jews in Palestine and an indefatigable champion of them in Germany. Stein has also written a book about baseball parks – “Fields of Summer” (Crescent Books) with a colleague at Roger Williams.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Stein actually does own an old Olivetti typewriter, after which his column is named. The fact that he composes on a computer, rather than on the ancient Olivetti, will probably disappoint faithful readers. His blog, fromtheoldolivetti.blogspot.com, contains his past columns.

Professor Sam Lehman-Wilzig writes a biweekly column (Reflections Of/In Israel) that appears each issue on our Opinions pages. He was born in New York City and Professor Sam Lehman-Wilzigeducated at CCNY and Harvard University. He has taught at Bar-Ilan University in Israel since 1977. He served as Lipinsky Visiting Scholar at San Diego State University, 1989-90, and as the Schusterman Visiting Israeli Scholar at Brown University (Program in Judaic Studies), 2008-09. During that year he gave more than two dozen public lectures at universities and Jewish venues around the U.S.

Professor Lehman-Wilzig is an authority on Israeli extra-parliamentary behavior, as well as Israeli media, election campaigns and the Jewish political tradition. Regarding the former, he has published numerous articles and two books in English (one translated to Hebrew). In the field of communications he has written a popular textbook: Handbook of Mass Communications (Hebrew; 1994), and authored several scholarly articles on media and communications.
